Solar Evaporation Salt Production Project
Salum Salt is mobilising to produce salt by solar evaporation in Morocco.
About the Project
Salum Salt is bringing an age-old craft into the future—producing sea salt using only the forces of nature, at a scale that speaks to today’s global needs.
This is not a story of extraction, but of alignment—with climate, with ecosystems, and with emerging markets that demand cleaner, more resilient sources of raw materials. From food and agriculture to industrial processes and green chemistry, salt remains one of the world’s most essential and underestimated resources.
At Salum Salt, we’ve found a rare opportunity: ideal land and climate, strong local partnerships, modern infrastructure, and government support.
The result is a project that not only delivers environmental and economic value, but restores habitats, supports biodiversity, and contributes to a more sustainable regional economy.
We are not rushing. We are building something meant to last—step by step, with clarity, purpose, and a deep respect for the land and sea that make it possible.
Welcome to a new chapter in salt production—one defined by integrity, ecology, and long-term vision.
About Solar Evaporation Salt Production
A solar evaporation salt production project uses sun and wind to evaporate water from brine in a series of shallow ponds, concentrating the salt until it crystallizes and can be harvested.
Key steps involve directing brine from natural sources like the ocean into evaporation ponds, where solar and wind energy cause water to evaporate and concentrate the brine. The saturated brine is then transferred to crystallization ponds, where salt crystals form, are collected mechanically, and can be further purified through washing, drying, and sieving for various industrial, food, and pharmaceutical applications.
Eco-friendly: The process is naturally driven by solar and wind energy, resulting in a low carbon footprint
